The road closed after the discovery, back in September, that there was a potential failure for the cattle guard-crossing tunnel because of extensive damage from loads hauled over the tunnel in excess of the posted limit of 5 tons. The road was closed while the Amador County Public Works Agency looked into road repairs, costs and estimates. The initial costs of the repair that were reported by the County’s engineering firm, Forsgren Associates, were 100,000 dollars and included the increase of the load limit for the tunnel from 5 tons to 20 tons. The site survey is now complete and the detailed structural designs are scheduled to be complete by Dec 15th. Bidding on the project to select a contractor should be completed by December 22 looking toward a January 15th construction start date. The time estimates from the public works department currently are that the road should be completed by February 10th.
