Highly publicized bills in regards to Indian Gaming by John
McCain and Richard Pombo appear to be stalled. According to French the focus in
Washington is changing from a heavy
emphasis on gaming to a look at the health and welfare of all native Peoples,
whether or not they have a casino for economic sustainability. Oversight on Indian Gaming Issues is also a topic in the wake of the
Jack Abramoff Lobbying scandal. Also, the Federal Lobbyists could be helpful
with the Mule Creek State Prison issue, as the presence of nitrates appearing
in local wells could have Federal implications.
French stated that he will
notify the appropriate federal officials of the latest findings. Eventually
federal support could help the county in dealing with the state. French
reported on the changes in Congress and how that could impact Amador County.
Priorities Discussed remain the same for the near future with libraries, parks,
roads and Indian Gaming issues topping the list.
