Fraud Charges Filed Against Mesa De Oro Developer
Finally, some satisfaction for some Amador
County residents that have waited patiently for years to resolve property
disputes in the senior community of the Mesa De Oro area of Sutter Creek. The
original developer Sheldon Thompson will be facing justice over what is characterized
as multiple counts of real estate fraud. The case began when the Amador County District Attorney’s
Office received a citizen complaint against Mr. Thompson and conducted a
preliminary investigation.
The District Attorney’s Office inquiry revealed that a crime probably
did occur but that it would be difficult and time consuming given the local
DA’s office's lack of resources to investigate and prosecute this type of
crime. As an alternative the District Attorney’s office contacted the
State Attorney General who agreed to take over investigation and prosecution of
Mr. Thompson's case. The Attorney General recently
charged 3 felony counts against Mr. Thompson for obtaining money by false
pretenses, multiple real estate sales of the same property, and diversion of
funds.
