Unit Chief Bill Holmes will formally end the 2006 Fire
Season in the Amador-El Dorado Unit of the California Department of Forestry
and Fire Protection (CDF) today, Monday, November 13, 2006 at 8 a.m. The unit includes Amador and El
Dorado counties as well as the eastern foothills of Sacramento County. Burn
Permits are not required, but
the Air Quality Management District will be determining “burn days” or “no burn
days” until May 1, 2007 when burn permits will again be required.
Please make sure to call
the burn information line immediately prior to burning. Winter months are a
safe time to work on maintaining your defensible space around your home and
structures on your property. Please keep
in mind that the “Defensible Space” regulations changed as of January 1, 2005,
to 100 feet around every structure or to the property line, which ever is
closer. This does not mean a barren
landscape. It does mean separating fire
fuels, keeping your weeds cut down and maintaining this from year to year. For further information on the new
regulations visit the CDF website at www.fire.ca.gov or stop by your CDF fire
station for more information. To
make sure it is indeed a burn day before you light your pile contact the Amador
Air District at 223-6246. Call 223-6246 and remember prior to lighting
an outdoor fire burn only natural vegetation that is dry and watch where your
smoke is going. Burn only when smoke
travels away from your neighbors and never leave your fire unattended.
