According to Officer Brandon Hallam’s report Philip Derord, 83 of Mountain Ranch was traveling southbound within the Casino Handicap parking lot looking for a parking stall. He pulled between two parked cars to park his car when he observed 74 year old Stella Jacouetta of Elk Grove standing near him and motioning for him to pull around to an open parking stall on a different isle. After doing so Jacouetta turned and continued towards the Casino entrance and glanced back to see if Derord was going to drive around to the parking lot stall, while doing so she saw that Derord’s 2000 Ford was rolling towards her. She yelled for Derord to stop the vehicle however it was too late as she was struck by the side of the Ford. The impact of the vehicle caused Jacouetta to fall on the pavement and hit her head and arm. Derord exited his vehicle to check on her and she was subsequently transported to SAH for her injuries.

At 11:15 Saturday morning, 19 year old Bradlee Conklin of Sutter Creek was traveling westbound on Sutter Creek Volcano Road, approaching a left curve in the roadway. At the time, it was raining and the roadway was wet. According to Officer Frank Peixoto’s report Conklin was traveling at too great a speed to safely negotiate an upcoming curve in the roadway. As a direct result of Conklin’s unsafe speed, he failed to maintain his 2003 Ford within the westbound lane. The vehicle left the roadway and collided with fencing south of the roadway. Conklin was uninjured in the accident.

A Charlotte North Carolina Man was driving a rented 2006 Saturn Coupe east bound on Hwy. 88 approaching the Carson Spur was the next victim of winter driving conditions and speed. Saturday while rounding a right hand curve in the roadway, Iyer Raj Sekhor, 26 of North Carolina lost control of his vehicle. According to Officer Steve Ladd’s report the weather was cold and snowing at the time of the accident and the roadways had a covering of Ice and snow due to the storm that occurred over the weekend. Sekhor’s Saturn proceeded out of control and crossed over the west bound land of the roadway and then off of the road where it struck a raised dirt embankment and came to rest. The vehicle sustained minor damage and the occupants within the vehicle were uninjured.

Icy roadway conditions combined with speed was the cause of another accident that occurred on Sunday morning. According to Officer Craig Zaragoza’s report Mary Vinciguerra, 52 of Byron Ca, had entered a downhill curve with icy roadway conditions on Hwy. 88 just east of the Mormon Emigrant trail. Vinciguerra was traveling at an unsafe speed for the roadway conditions which caused her vehicle to spin out of control. The 2002 Chevy struck a snow marker and guardrail and received some damage while Vinciguerra was uninjured in the accident.
