California Attorney General Bill Lockyer moved to dismiss a federal
lawsuit challenging Jessica's Law, also known as Proposition 83 on the November
7th ballot.
Jessica’s
law which passed with an overwhelming 70.6 percent yes vote, increases prison
terms for sex offenders and requires lifetime satellite tracking for rapists,
child molesters and other felony sex criminals upon their release from prison.
The voter-approved measure also prohibits registered sex offenders from living
within 2,000 feet of a school or park. Lockyer moved to have the lawsuit dismissed because the measure does not
have say how to punish those who violate the 2,000-foot rule. The
lawsuit also does not apply to convicts already living in a community.
