The special fire restrictions were put in effect as an emergency measure in July because of extremely dry conditions. The restrictions placed severe limitations on the use of open fires, smoking, and the use of internal combustion engines on public lands in an effort to reduce the chances of a wildfire. According to Fire Management Officer Ken Hood, there is no longer a need for special precautions because the time of extreme fire danger has passed. Hood said the General Fire Restrictions remain in place, and that a copy of those restrictions was available for public viewing at the Folsom BLM office. Fire Prevention Officer Tim Mullen reminded public land users that although the fire danger is reduced, wildfires are still possible, especially if the dry north wind blows.
