CDF: Watch What Your Heating

Prevent Cooking FiresNext week is CDF’s annual Fire Prevention Week and CDF is reminding all residents of some fire dangers that , well, are part of every day life. As part of Fire Prevention Week the State Fire Marshal is emphasizing everyday situations that can lead to injury and one of those is something as simple as cooking, According to state statistics 290 people die and 4,380 are injured each year nationwide in house fires associated with cooking equipment.

CDF Director and State Fire Marshall Ruben GrijalvaThis year’s campaign is “Prevent Cooking Fires: Watch What You Heat”. According to CDF Director and State Fire Marshall Rueben Grijalva, “That is why it is so important that we prevent cooking fires from starting in the first place.” Here are some tips to prevent cooking fires: Never leave the kitchen unattended while frying, grilling, broiling or boiling food./ Keep children away from ovens, stoves and other sources of heat./Make sure you have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen within 10 feet of the stove./Keep flammable material away from the stovetop. Things like paper, plastic, wood, curtains, etc.,/Do not place aluminum foil or metal objects in the microwave oven./Always have a working smoke detector min your home that is tested at least twice a year./Should clothing catch fire remember to STOP>DROP< and ROLL.
