According to Amador County Undersheriff James Wegner,
Thursday at about 5:30pm he was contacted by El Dorado Sheriff’s Office SWAT
unit requesting help from the Amador County SWAT unit. The local unit responded with the available SWAT members
and equipment. Amador County deputies were briefed at the Command
Post (CP) regarding the subject, identified as Shawnee Hannah, 57 years old, about
his history and possible motivation. The El Dorado Sheriff’s Department
advised that the subject had shot his wife in the hand. EDSO had the
neighborhood evacuated and a perimeter around the residence when the Amador
Units arrived on scene. Amador
County SWAT then used their Armored Vehicle (AV) to provide cover for
part of the El Dorado Team near the front of the residence. The Amador
SWAT then deployed the remainder of their resources to the rear areas of
the target, or residence, to act as an inner perimeter containment and gas
deployment team. Amador SWAT used their Armored Vehicle to deliver
the hostage negotiation phone, or throw phone inside the front door.
The El Dorado SO then activated the ringing of the phone and the Amador Unit
shouted directions to the barricaded man him from the Armored Vehicle.
Amador perimeter teams observed the subject in the upstairs of the home on a
number of occasions. EDSO
used their robot to make entry into the down stairs area of the residence and
requested the subject pick up the phone. They never received a response.
The robot was used then used
as a terminator of sorts, removing window coverings from the windows downstairs
to allow law enforcement better visibility. After
midnight chemical agents were deployed for several hours and as were
continued negotiations attempts.
At approximately 0230 hours Amador and EDSOs SWAT Teams were relieved by Sac SO SWAT, who continued with gas and diversion devices. The suspect surrendered by walking out the front door around 4:30. Hannah was then arrested and booked on suspicion of illegal discharge of a weapon from or into a residence.
