Early Monday morning at 6:30 am an accident occurred on Hwy. 88 east of Cooks Station. According to Officer Patrick Ong’s report Twain Harte resident Beverley Davis was traveling east bound on Hwy 88 at a stated speed of 40 mph when she lost control of her vehicle on the wet and icy roadway. Her 2002 Ford Ranger ran off of the south side of the highway and ascended a downhill embankment before finally colliding with a tree. Davis was transported to SAH to be treated for her injuries.
Later that afternoon another accident occurred in the upcountry area, also on Hwy. 88. Officer Hagemann’s report states that a 79 year old John Crenear, a Pioneer resident, was east bound on Hwy. 88 just west of Silver Drive at 45-50 mph in his 2003 Chevy. Ellen Waverly, 37 also of Pioneer was stopped in the left turn lane on northbound Silver Drive at the intersection of Hwy.88. Waverly apparently inched forward to clear traffic and then stopped. Crenear observed Waverly pull forward and thought she was attempting to pull out in front of him. Crenear then overreacted, according to the report, and he turned towards the right causing his pickup truck to skid sideways on to Silver Drive. The left front of his vehicle to hit the rear of Waverly’s 2001 Subaru. Waverly was transported to SAH with minor injures.
