A California Youth Authority (CYA) fire crew made a gruesome discovery yesterday while working in Fiddletown when they stumbled upon skeletal remains. According to a press release from the Amador County Sheriff’s Office, yesterday at approximately 9:30am the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office advised the Amador County Sheriff’s Office that they were responding into Amador County regarding a lead on the possible location of a murder victim. The Amador County Sheriff’s Office assigned an investigator to assist. At approximately 11:10am, Cal Fire contacted the Amador County Sheriff’s Office and reported that a CYA fire crew working in the area had located some human remains in a wooded area south east of Fiddletown.
A team of Sheriff’s investigators responded to find the skeletal remains of a subject approximately ten yards off the roadway. Due to some consistencies with the scene and physical evidence, San Joaquin County Investigators were requested to respond to the scene of the found skeletal remains. Based upon the totality of the circumstances, the Amador County Sheriff’s Office released jurisdiction of the crime scene and the Coroner’s Investigation to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. The scene was processed by the California Department of Justice. San Joaquin County Investigators are not releasing further details until identification of the body using dental records is complete.
