The Sutter Creek Planning Commission
this week held a public hearing regarding traffic concerns at the Farmers
Market. The hearing was scheduled in order to update the Conditional Use
Permit approved in 1995 and to incorporate past changes into a new document.
The meat of the discussion concerned the removal of the barricades which are
currently placed around the
farmers market to restrict vehicular traffic. Some members of the public feel
that the barriers are too restrictive of public accessibility to the market,
and should be removed. The commission, however, did not feel comfortable
opening the market to thru traffic, and recommended that the barricades stay in
place as stated in the permit. After some discussion, the conditional use
permit was approved unanimously by the commission.
The Sutter
Creek Planning Commission also held a hearing Monday evening to discuss concern over the Powder Hill
Terrace Site Plan. Commissioner Kuhna, who holds property within 500 feet of
the proposed project, recused himself from the agenda item. The applicant,
Stan Gamble, was at the
meeting to answer questions or concerns raised by the commission or the public
during the hearing. This is not the first time that this project has
been seen by the Commission; the site plan permit was originally approved by
the planning commission in 2004, however, the project was not initiated within
12 months of approval and the site plan expired. The project has also been
discussed extensively at the Design Review Committee level. The proposed project includes 54
townhouse units on 6.2 acres of land. A motion was carried to approve the site
plan proposed.
