He designed the water-powered factory, as well as created the water turbines that can still be found in the basements of some Sutter Creek homes today. Due to great care, almost the entire factory is still standing and in relative working order. Sutter Creek visitors can step into the past and view the historic foundry, and hopefully someday in the near future take tours of the remarkable structures.
In February of this year the City of Sutter Creek and Samuel Knight LLC entered into a purchase agreement to buy the Foundry and ever since the Knight Foundry Corporation has been hard at work raising funds to purchase the historic site. This weekend a special event was held for that sole purpose when on Saturday evening a crowd turned out for “Help Save (the) Knight Foundry” evening at the Jackson Rancheria. The evening began at 6pm with live music and a no host bar and cocktail hour. The live auction and excellent surf and turf dinner began at 7. The evening filled with raffle prizes, live music, good food and company ended at 10. If you missed the opportunity to participate, but would still like to help the effort to save the Foundry and restore it to operation contact the Knight Foundry Corporation at 267-5967 or you can donate online at JustGive.org.
