Jackson City Council met Monday evening to a full agenda, but since both Mayor Stidger and Councilwoman Pryor-Escamilla were absent, many items were continued to future meetings when more council members would be present for a vote.

Public Notice was given for Water and Sewer Rate Increases, with a proposed increase of 8.5% for all water customers and a sewer rate increase of 17.5% for residential and commercial customers. If approved, these rates would be effective January 1, 2008. Additional increases to water services would take place on July 1, 2008 with a 6% increase, and another 6.5% increase on July 1, 2009. A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 to accept protests and consider adoption of the water and sewer rate increases. In accordance with the Proposition 218 Protest Procedure, if a majority of the public protests the proposed rate increase in writing, the City cannot impose the rate increase. And, the council accepted the resignation of current Jackson representative Patrick Keene from the Kennedy Mine Board of Directors, and voted in Frank Blauvelt Jr. to a full three year term.

A public hearing had been scheduled to appeal the Jackson Planning Commission’s Approval of the Oak Manor Addition Conditional Use Permit, and that was continued to October 9th . Also, an ordinance to rezone Jackson Hills Golf Course and Community to Residential Single Family and Planned Unit Development was also continued to the next meeting, when the council agreed this was an issue which should be discussed with a full council.
