She was completely surprised on Thursday morning, the first day of the Chinese New Year -- when Officer Todd Breedlove and Chief Scott Morrison of the Jackson Police Department and Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies presented her with $1500 cash. After hearing of the student’s predicament, Breedlove passed the hat among members of the Jackson Police Activities League and Amador County Peace Officers Association. Along with the Calaveras county deputies, they quickly raised more than enough cash in personal donations to replace Wang’s stolen pocket money. The money was presented to Wang in a new purse, complete with a set of toy handcuffs to keep her purse close at hand – even in bathrooms. This generous act of international goodwill came on an auspicious day for the Chinese – and just in time for the foreign exchange students’ last stop in the U.S. – Disneyland.
