Plymouth
City Council will consider withdrawing city fire department service from the
Amador Fire Protection District. At a special city
council meeting scheduled for 5 pm – just prior to Thursday evening’s regularly
scheduled council meeting – the Plymouth City Council will hear a financial
report on the city’s contract with the AFPD and receive public input on the
subject of the county fire protection district’s services to the city.
AFPD chief Jim McCart told TSPN that he didn’t
know what the intentions of the
city council would be at this juncture. He said he had “heard concerns from a
couple of city council members” and that the fire district had sent a
letter to the city asking for clarification on the city’s position. He said
he’d have to attend the meeting Thursday to find out what particular issues are
of concern to the council. The meeting agenda says that the council will decide
whether to notify the AFPD of City’s intentions to
withdraw from the District as soon as possible but no later than March 1, 2008
OR to notify the AFPD of the
City’s intentions to remain with the District, with amendment of some terms and
conditions, through the contract term of June 30, 2010. Also on the
special meeting agenda is a review of plans to improve restrooms at Lodge Hill
and add drinking fountains for humans and dogs there. The council’s regular meeting will begin at
6:30 and will include selection of the Mayor and Vice Mayor for 2008.
