slide2Last night the Jackson City Council considered the controversial Jackson Hills Project. The item before the council was not to make a final decision on the project but rather hear more information surrounding the project. The public hearing for the meeting apparently was not properly posted therefore any comments made regarding the project could not become a matter of record. The Council heard first from City Planner Susan Peters who gave a short description of the project and the process it has gone through for the last 5 years.

The applicant/developer New Faze Development then introduced the project. The developer’s engineering firm and its representative Les Clark, of Nolte Engineering, discussed wastewater issues for the city and how this project is the potential solution. The City’s consulting engineers on the project ECO:Logic also gave a presentation on the City’s current wastewater situation. City Manager Mike Daly announced that the City has finally received the long awaited document regarding the NPDES or National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, permit yesterday. Because the document is lengthy the City has not been able to properly investigate it in its entirety. Daly did state it appears that the City may be required to upgrade to Title 22 tertiary standards, however it is unclear as to whether the effluent, or waste water, has to come out of the creek.

slide4 The ACTC’s Executive Director Charles Field closed the presentations with a report on existing traffic issues and the impacts the project will have in Jackson. The project has been at some what of a stand still, and while the Planning Commission has held countless meetings on the matter the City Council has only briefly been introduced. The Planning Commission most recently debated the merits of the project in a marathon meeting with the final recommendation that the City Council not approve the project. The Council used last nights meeting as an opportunity to hear about the project and the different impacts it may have as well as propose some questions that they would like to see answered at the August 13th meeting. The public also briefly presented questions that they too would like to see answered. On August 13 the Council is expected to make the final recommendation on the project.
