slide30Amador County residents now have more options for proper disposal and recycling of old batteries and fluorescent tubes & bulbs through the newly created “Take-It-Back Amador” Partnership.  These household items are referred to as Universal Waste – meaning items that are widely used and when thrown in landfills can pose harm to public health and the environment. California regulations no longer allow residents to throw these items in the trash.

slide31 The ban targets virtually every kind of household battery, used to operate devices ranging from toys to radios to hearing aids - AA, AAA, C cells, D cells and button batteries as well as fluorescent tubes and bulbs.  (All car/lawnmower/tractor batteries are taken only at A.C.E.S. Waste Services in Pine Grove and Amador Disposal Service at the Buena Vista Landfill Transfer Station.) Until now the only option Amador County residents had available was the County’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Facility every other Saturday at the Buena Vista Landfill Transfer Station.

slide32 The new program created by the Amador County Waste Management Department in collaboration with A.C.E.S. Waste Services, Amador Disposal Service, Meeks Lumber & Hardware, and Ace Hardware and Lumber located in Pine Grove and Ione now is offering 3 convenient locations. 1. Meeks Lumber & Hardware – 10422 State Hwy 49, Martell  2. Pine Grove ACE Hardware – 19660 Hwy 88, Pine Grove  3. Ione ACE Hardware – 217 W. Jackson, Ione.  Amador County Waste Management Department would like to remind you that this program is for residential use only and that business/commercial materials will not be accepted. For more information please visit the county’s website at www.amadorcounty.us/depts/waste or call the Amador County Waste Management Department at 209-223-6429.
