A Jackson couple has run into some trouble while
traveling around the county. According to the Patriot-News, a Harrisburg Pennsylvania newspaper is reporting that Jackson man has been released from
jail after his wife admitted lying when she claimed he shackled her inside a
camper for a week.
Officials said. Charleta Bird, 45, of Jackson is being held in Cumberland
County Prison, awaiting arraignment on charges including making false
reports to authorities. Bird told investigators that Ted Bird, 45, had
kidnapped her in West Virginia on July 17 and, for a week, kept her chained to
a couch in the camper parked at Western Village RV Park Inc. in South Middleton
Twp. Her story convinced
police, who arrested Ted Bird. He was charged with kidnapping, unlawful
restraint, false imprisonment and intimidation of a witness and placed
in Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. Ted Bird has been released, and all charges against
him have been dropped. "It's unfortunate because we're not in the business of
disbelieving victims," said Cumberland County District Attorney
David Freed. "On the
other hand, we had someone in prison who" apparently did not commit a
crime.
