The CHP has released the report on the accident that occurred on Tuesday morning involving an impaired driver. According to Officer Frank Peixoto’s report Michael Craig 49 and of Happy Valley was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 88 approaching the intersection of Lower Ridge Road. While, George Ruiz, 44 and of Fontana was traveling westbound on Hwy. 88, stopped at the intersection of Lower Ridge Road for a red traffic light.

Craig entered the left turn lane and began slowing, intending to make a left turn onto Ridge Road, but as he was slowing for the turn he lost consciousness. Peixoto reported that the loss of consciousness was the result of Craig being under the influence of prescription medication and in an unsafe condition to operate a motor vehicle. Instead of the vehicle turning when it entered the intersection it kept a straight path and went straight through the intersection, from the left lane, and collided head on with Ruiz’s vehicle. Peixoto reports that due to the use of passenger safety equipment and the low speed impact, injuries were extremely minor. Craig was arrested for driving under influence of drugs and booked into the Amador County Jail.

It was a near miss for Pine Grove driver on Tuesday when a driver pulled directly into his path. Officer Steve Ladd’s report indicates that Jarrett Marable, 21 and of Sacramento was driving a 2005 international flat bed truck north bound on Hwy. 26 when he stopped at the stop sign at Hwy. 88. Richard Kennealy, 68 and of Pine Grove was driving, his newly purchased 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlas eastbound on Hwy. 88 approaching the intersection. Marable looked left and then right and thought it was clear he then accelerated into the intersection directly into the path of Kennealy. Kennealy hit the brakes trying to avoid an accident but was unable to stop before the front of his Oldsmobile impacted the left side of Marable’s flat bed truck. Officer Ladd reports that neither driver suffered any injuries, however Kennealy’s newly purchased vehicle suffered major damage.
