slide28The CHP responded to several accidents over the weekend with the majority of the accidents occurring on Sunday.  The sudden storm that moved in on Saturday and brought snow to farther upcountry caught one San Jose driver off guard. According to the CHP report written by investigating Officer Brandon Hallam, Thong Nguyen, 40 and of San Jose was traveling west bound on Hwy. 88 east of Iron Mountain road at approximately 50 mph in his 1998 BMW

Nguyen came around a left hand curve in the roadway and due to his speed and the snowy/wet roadway conditions, his vehicle began to slide causing him to loose control and spin across the eastbound lane and down a steep embankment on the shoulder of the road. As the BMW traveled down the embankment it overturned several times until finally coming to rest at the bottom on its roof. Nguyen was able to climb out of the vehicle and up the embankment where a passing motorist stopped to assist him. Nguyen was transported by American Legion ambulance to SAH with minor cuts to his left arm as well as complaints of lower back pain.

slide29 On Sunday snow and ice remained on our upcountry roadways making Hwy. 88 the scene of another accident. Marke Jonas, 36 and of New Haven Connecticut was traveling on Hwy 88 east bound at 55-60 mph.  Investigating Officer Patrick Ong reported that Jonas entered a right curve and encountered snow and ice causing him to loose control of his 1999 Ford Explorer. The vehicle slid off of the south side of the highway and rolled over. Jonas suffered moderate injures and was transported to SAH.

An accident occurred on Buena Vista Road south of Camanche Parkway on Saturday. According to Officer Mike Lemaster’s report Kendall Doyle, 19 and of Valley Springs was southbound on Buena Vista Road sometime between 3am and 7:30 am. Apparently Doyle’s 1997 Volkswagen Jetta left the roadway and overturned numerous times until finally coming to rest in a swamp. Doyle was able to extract himself from the vehicle and flagged down a passing motorist who immediately notified 911 of the accident. Doyle was transported to UC Davis medical center with moderate injuries.
