A Calaveras
County jury of eight
women and four men deliberated
less than two hours yesterday morning before finding Daniel Rocha guilty of
first-degree murder in the Mokelumne Hill shooting death of 19-year-old David
Jessop. The murder occurred in March 2005 and stunned the quiet town.
Rocha was also found guilty of committing the crime as a member of a criminal
street gang.
The murder occurred in March 2005 and stunned

of a criminal street gang. Rocha admitted during the trial that he is a member
of the Nor-te-nos, but denied it was a criminal street gang. Jurors, however, accepted the prosecution's
claim that Rocha's gang met the legal definition of "criminal." Calaveras
County Prosecutor Seth Matthews told the Union Democrat that Rocha probably
faces a 50-years-to-life sentence.
