Last night was a busy night for the Amador County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol. Around 7pm a white Subaru Outback was reported rolled in the middle of Hwy 88 near Van Dei Hei Rd. The vehicle came to rest on its top in a gravel lot adjacent to the roadway. Trapped inside was a 44 year old Pioneer woman. Once removed by Amador Fire Protection District Battalion 10 crews, the woman was transported by American Legion Ambulance to the Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp for an air ambulance ride to Mercy-San Juan Hospital. According to CHP reports, the woman was arrested at the scene for suspicion of driving under the influence and was then released to medical personal.

Friday afternoon a 5th wheel camper and pickup truck caught fire on highway 88 Friday at the RR tracks on the grade coming up to Hurricane Hill near Blue Sky Drive. The owner of the truck indicated to Jackson Fire Personnel, Ione City Fire and Calfire crews that the he had filled up with gas in Stockton, and that both tanks of the two tank fuel load were full. The cause of the fire was not clear but the owner stated that initially there was smoke coming out of the back of the truck. By the time the driver was able to stop and investigate the flames had begun to explode from the rear of the truck. There were no injuries but both vehicles were a total loss.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) announce the first ever joint conference to improve emergency response efforts with key participants in Highway Incident Management.  The summit is scheduled on April 3-4, 2007, at the Riverside Convention Center in Riverside, California.

The Sutter Creek Police Dept. has announced that the search for a parolee at large has come to an end with the man safely taken into custody and booked at the Amador Co. Jail. At approximately 10pm on Monday March 26th, Jerry Wayne Locklear was arrested in the backyard of a residence in the City of Sutter Creek. Locklear was being sought for violating the terms of his parole out of San Joaquin County, and was being sought for questioning by the Sutter Creek Police Dept. in regards to a domestic violence incident which had occurred on Saturday March 10th in the City of Sutter Creek.

Local fire departments are reporting their February call totals and there is no let up in sight for the increasing numbers. The Amador Fire Protection District reports their volunteer crews reported to 137 incidents in February. 86 of the calls were medical aids. Those combined with 17 vehicle accidents to account for 75 percent of the incident totals for the month. 5 calls were fire related including 2 structure fires, 2 chimney fires and 1 grass fire. Of all the Battalion 10 and 20 calls 49 percent of the calls occurred between 8 am and 5 pm. Sutter Creek Fire Protection District volunteers were also active with a total of 53 calls requiring their response. 36 calls were for medical assistance, 3 structure fires, 1 chimney fire, 2 motor vehicle accidents and two rescue calls. Medical aid accounts for approximately 70 percent of the calls.

Last night the first fatality on Amador County roads was reported when two vehicles hit head on near the Twin Bridges area of hwy 88 about 3 and one half miles east of the Amador/San Joaquin County line. The highway was closed after the 7:54 pm accident for approximately one hour from Liberty Road through the accident site. According to witnesses on scene the accident occurred when a Toyota Camry traveling west bound on Hwy 88 veered off the right side of the roadway, hit the guide rail and bounced into the east bound lane colliding head-on with a Chevy suburban causing fatal injuries to the driver of the Camry.

On Wednesday November 30, the Amador County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding a possible sexual predator attempting to interact with children via the Internet.

A Free Workshop is being offered by the Amador county Child Abuse Prevention Council on Internet Safety for Kids & Adults. It will be presented at the Camanche Lake Community Center on Thursday, August 9th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The workshop is geared to elementary aged kids and their parents and guardians. Topics include safety tips for passwords, screen names and online profiles, what to do if an inappropriate message is received, how online predators work, cyber bullying, and more. The workshop is presented free of charge by the Amador County Child Abuse Prevention Council.

The FBI's Sacramento Violent Crimes Task Force (SVCTF), comprised of Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and Sacramento County Sheriff's Department robbery detectives, and the Sacramento Police Department are seeking information on an unidentified male bank robber believed to be responsible for six bank robberies in Sacramento, California. The individual in question is described as a black male adult with a light complexion, 30-39 years of age, 5'10" - 5'11", slender build, black hair that is balding on top and a thin moustache. The robber has what appears to be spider-web tattoos on both arms. The "Spiderman Bandit" is suspected in the robbery 6 Sacramento banks. Anyone with information regarding these robberies is asked to contact the FBI in Sacramento at (916) 481-9110, the Sacramento Police Department at (916) 808-0665, or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00.

Last night a solo vehicle collision into a power pole on Curran Rd near Village Drive knocked power lines down and into a field sparking a wild land fire. A quick response by the Jackson Valley Fire department helped avert what had the potential to be a serious incident. The first crews on scene reported power lines down and no injuries to the driver of the car. PG&E was called for with a request of an ASAP response as the Power Pole and lines were both down across the roadway blocking both lanes of Curran Rd. Amador County Sheriff’s Deputies were then called upon to assist the CHP for traffic control to direct drivers traveling down the closed road. It was determined by law enforcement on scene that the road closure would be for an extended time as the pole also included a transformer and the Amador County Road Department was requested to the scene.
