Sherriff's Deputy Involved in Pursuit
Amador County Sheriff’s Deputies had a pursuit on their hands
yesterday morning when a driver failed to yield to a Deputy attempting a
routine traffic stop.
The Deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle on
Hwy 88 near Ione but the driver just did not stop. The Deputy continued behind
the driver, with lights and sirens activated, for almost 8 miles at rather
moderate speeds, around 55 miles per hour. Finally, after the Sheriff’s
Department had contacted CHP and San
Joaquin County
officials to make preparations to stop the vehicle with spike strips, the man
pulled over near the county line. The driver claimed he had not realized that he had been followed by the
Sheriff’s Unit for 8 miles with lights and sirens blaring because he was
focused forward. The driver
was arrested for misdemeanor failure to yield for a peace officer and booked
into the Amador County jail.
