Amador County is Closing Road for 7 Days
Several
local roads will be closed for a 7 day period in the near future for storm
related repairs. Public Works Director Larry Peterson asked for permission to close New
Chicago Road, 1.5 miles north of the Turner Rd
intersection, Quartz Mountain Road, 2.4 miles south of
Fiddletown, and Stoney Creek Rd,
4.4 miles south of Jackson
through .3 miles north of Buena
Vista Rd for a seven day period.
The closures are necessary for repair work to
fix road slides caused by the March and April 2006 storms. Contractors, once
walking the roads during the bidding process, brought to the attention of
Public Works personnel that costs would be dramatically reduced in the bids, if
the roads were to be closed- allowing unfettered access to the roads by the
contractors. Open roads could also add
as many as three weeks to the process. This will save the county a sizeable
amount of money, estimated to be 418-thousand dollars. The closures were
approved and Peterson stated that the public will be notified by the
contractors of when the closures will take place by signs, radio and print. He
specifically recanted television notification.
