According to the California Highway Patrol Officer Frank Peixoto, Betty Jane Irvin of Pine Grove was traveling on the roads within the boundaries of the Rancheria when she approached a stop sign. As she slowed for the stop sign, she hit the gas instead of the brake pedal accelerating through the intersection. As she went through the intersection she narrowly missed another vehicle, left the roadway, and overturned coming to rest on its side in some nearby bushes. Irvin received major injuries and was transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital.
