Fire Season is Still With Us

slide2CAL FIRE IS REMINDING ALL HOMEOWNERS IN AMADOR COUNTY THAT, ALTHOUGH WE HAVE HAD A SPELL OF COOLER WEATHER AND SOME PRECIPITATION OVER THE PAST WEEK, WE ARE STILL IN A CRITICALLY DRY FIRE SEASON AND THE BURN SUSPENSION REMAINS IN EFFECT. SEVERAL ILLEGAL CONTROL BURNS WERE REPORTED OVER THE WEEKEND AND WE ARE STILL IN A SEASON OF HIGH FIRE DANGER. FINE FUELS CAN DRY OUT RAPIDLY WITH LOWER HUMIDITY’S AND WE DID NOT GET ENOUGH RAIN TO SATURATE THE LARGE FUELS.  IN MANY LOCATIONS THE RAIN DID NOT PENETRATE THE CROWNS OF THE OVERSTORY TREES LEAVING THESE DRY FUELS SUSCEPTIBLE TO IGNITION.

ALWAYS REMEMBER TO CALL THE FOLLOWING BURN INFORMATION LINES FOR BURN DAY STATUS: AMADOR COUNTY (209) 223-6264. THE WINTER MONTHS ARE A GREAT TIME TO WORK ON MAINTAINING YOUR DEFENSIBLE SPACE AROUND YOUR HOME AND STRUCTURES ON YOUR PROPERTY.  PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THE “DEFENSIBLE SPACE” REGULATIONS CHANGED AS OF JANUARY 1ST, 2005, TO ONE HUNDRED FEET AROUND EVERY STRUCTURE OR TO THE PROPERTY LINE, WHICH EVER IS CLOSER.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN A BARREN LANDSCAPE.  IT DOES MEAN SEPARATING FUELS FROM EACH OTHER, KEEPING YOUR WEEDS CUT DOWN AND MAINTAINING THIS FROM YEAR TO YEAR.  FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE NEW REGULATIONS VISIT THE CAL FIRE WEBSITE AT WWW.FIRE.CA.GOV, STOP BY YOUR LOCAL CAL FIRE STATION, OR CONTACT THE AMADOR FIRE SAFE COUNCIL AT AMDORFIRESAFECOUNCIL.ORG.
