Bombs and Weapons in San Andreas?

slide19A strange tale of military-style weapons, drugs, and a cyanide powder bomb is under investigation across the river in San Andreas. Ronald LeRoy Applegate, 60, of San Andreas and two younger San Andreas residents face federal firearms charges after a burglary investigation turned up much more than investigators had bargained for. According to the Sonora Union Democrat, the most lethal weapons — including an improvised bomb designed to disperse a form of cyanide powder — were recovered from a residence in Valley Springs. A Colt M-16 assault rifle, an Uzi with silencer, and illegal tracer ammunition rounds were found along with the bomb.

Items stolen in the early-August burglary were found in an Angels Camp storage container leased by Applegate. That burglary — in which $30,000 worth of tools, jewelry and weapons were taken — triggered the investigation leading to Applegate's arrest. In custody along with Applegate are James Bertrand, 26, and Bertrand's 19-year-old wife, Tina Marie. Applegate, being held in lieu of $270,000 bail, has been arraigned on drug and weapons charges and will appear for further court proceedings at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Bertrand and his wife were arraigned Thursday on burglary and drug-related charges. Federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents are preparing federal charges against Applegate. An attempt to trace the origins of the weapons and munitions continues. The name of the burglary victim is being withheld by authorities until the investigation is complete. The guns taken in the burglary reportedly were not weapons classified as illegal.  A Sonora Union Democrat Story
