Amador Water Agency Announces Completion of Water Supply Project

The Amador Water Agency has continued to work towards finding solutions to meet the water needs of the Lake Camanche Village. Recently their efforts stepped up when the Agency learned last year that a well’s production had plummeted to below 50 percent of production. The Agency reacted quickly in conjunction with the Department of Health Services and pursued the necessary steps to drill a new well. In September that well was constructed and found to produce approximately 350 gallons per minute.
The Agency’s Manager of Engineering and Planning Gene Mancebo, says he is “pleased with the well production rate.” To ensure dependable and adequate water supply the Agency will also be undertaking a study to determine the specific “safe yield” of the well system. The Agency will begin this process by first applying for a local Groundwater Assistance Grant, so as not to impose financing the study on the local customers.  However, until the Agency can pursue constructing a new surface water supply for the area, the new well and others will provide a safe and yet reliable water source for the customers of the Lake Camanche Village area.
