The question of whether some chiefs were even in favor of a consolidated department was cited as the reason for the poor attendance at that meeting. Another meeting was set for November 1st, where priorities and ground strategies were set for the consolidation process. Economic issues, such as the creation of a financial strategy and a finance report on the cost of consolidation were agreed to be of greatest importance, and the pursuit of these issues was delegated to fire and county staff. Drafting of a detailed command structure was another main topic, and possible conflicts with that, including the question of disciplinary action under a consolidated department, were also deliberated. A rough outline of a command structure was constructed, and fire staff should have a more solid draft of that at the next AFPA meeting set for November 26th. Although these initial steps towards consolidation are being made, there remains the question of whether consolidation can be attained without all of the fire chiefs 100% on board. The general consensus of the AFPA seems to be that if consolidation turns out not to be an appealing option for the future of Amador Fire Protection, then an alternative to convergence will come into play and be shaped during these discussions.

Fire Chiefs Consider Consolidation
Last week, Amador Fire
Protection Authority took some initial
steps towards the formation of a consolidated Amador Fire Protection
Department. At the last September 13th AFPA meeting, it was
decided that the individual fire chiefs would meet to discuss the conditions
and terms for a future consolidated fire department. However, at the October 23rd
Amador Fire Protection District meeting, only 4 out of 6 department
representatives showed.
