In the current draft, the first day of school would be August 13 and the last day, June 6. The winter break is now 19 days long, the spring break is 11 days long, and there is a 4-day weekend over Memorial Day. Other holiday weekends follow the pattern that the district has used the past several years. The school calendar is negotiated as part of the teachers union contract and is not technically subject to public comment, though it appears that revisions in the current draft reflect changes requested by detractors of the earlier plan. The school board will approve the final calendar as part of the consent agenda at a future meeting. You can see the current draft school calendar on the school district’s website at www.amadorcoe.org.

AUSD School Calendar
The draft 2008 – 2009 Amador County Unified School
District calendar is available for review. An earlier draft of
next year’s school calendar was roundly criticized by teachers and
parents at a recent school board meeting – for starting too early in August,
for a 24-day-long winter break and too many multiple day weekend holidays that
critics said would disrupt classroom teaching and learning.
