Presidential Primary Election February 5th

This year’s presidential primary is attracting lots of voter interest and is expected to motivate many young people to vote for the first time. If you are a first time voter, or if your address has changed, the last date to register for this year’s Presidential Primary Election is January 22. Many folks in Amador County will be voting by mail. To vote by mail you must submit your written request by January 29. Sheldon D. Johnson, Registrar of Voters, announced today that the Election Department commenced mailing out vote by mail ballots on Monday, January 7. Your vote-by-mail ballot must be received in the Elections Department or at any polling place in Amador County no later than 8:00pm on the day of election, February 5.

If you are not affiliated with any political party, but are registered to vote, you can vote for nominated candidates of the American Independent Party and the Democratic Party in this year’s President Primary Election. If you did not request a specific party’s ballot, you will be given a non-partisan ballot containing only the names of candidates for non-partisan offices and measures to be voted on. The Registrar of Voters also announced that the state pamphlet on the first three ballot propositions was mailed to voters in December, 2007 by the Secretary of State’s office.

The supplemental state pamphlet for the four gaming compact propositions will be mailed to voters soon.  And good news this year for the visually impaired, the Official Voter Information Guide can be ordered in a large-print format, and an audio-cassette version in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Japanese and Korean. To order the large-print or audio-cassette versions, please visit the website at: www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vig_altformts.htm, or call the Voter Hotline at 1-800-345-VOTE (8683). Registrar of Voters Sheldon Johnson will be with us here at TSPN on Wednesday to talk about the upcoming election.
