New Garden For Argonaut High
Argonaut High
School students may have a lot to look forward to come
spring: Plans are underway to break ground on an impressive
new school garden. The Special Education and Science Departments both applied
for a California Department of Education grant last spring. In December, the departments learned
that they would be awarded funding totaling 5,000 dollars.
“We are very excited to set forth our plans to provide our students with
a hands-on learning environment,” says Gail VonWald, a special education
teacher at Argonaut High. She hopes the school garden will open up a world of
exploration for the students. The benefits of the garden could reach beyond the
school year – with enough public interest, VonWald has offered to teach
gardening classes this summer. Those facilitating the garden are seeking interested members of
the public to join a Garden Advisory Committee that will help oversee long-term
plans for the garden. Interested individuals are encouraged to call VonWald at
257-7713.
