The Amador County Fairgrounds yesterday became the recipient of a large check courtesy of Pacific Gas and Electric Company for a “green” project.

Yes, appropriately, the Amador County Fair Grounds are moving toward a more energy efficient “ green” power program with the installation of solar panels on the rooftops of barns and stables and yesterday, PG&E officials presented the Fairgrounds with a check for 145,000 dollars, the first of about 800,000 dollars that PG&E will provide to the County Fair Grounds for further energy efficiency improvements.  The power generated by the new solar panels will save the fairgrounds approximately $15,000 per year in power bills.

Statewide, there are 26 fairgrounds either with solar installed or in the process of being installed. The funds provided from PG&E are mandated by the State of California, in other words, PG&E must expend a set amount of its proceeds for projects like this.
