Local Man Accused Of DUI & Then Golf Cart Theft For His Escape

California Highway Patrol Officer Mike LeMasters responded to an early morning accident on Friday January 26th when an Pioneer man fell asleep at the wheel. According to LeMaster’s report Robert Schmidt, 39, of Pioneer was driving his 2001 Ford Van west bound on Hwy. 16 at 60 mph when he fell asleep and drifted off the south roadway edge and subsequently, down an embankment. The van rolled over numerous times until finally coming to a stop. Schmidt received minor cuts and bruises and also had complaints of pain to his back and neck. He was transported to UC Davis Medical Center.

At 2:35 that afternoon an accident occurred on Martell Road. According to the CHP report Stephen Sieck, 55 of Wilseyville was stopped in a parking stall at 12356 Martell Road. Lisa Hernandez, 35 of Ione was backing her 2001 Honda out of the parking lot of 12351 Martell Road. As Hernandez backed out across the lanes of Martell Road she turned to travel east bound on Martell Road stopping with the right rear of her Honda partially on the south shoulder. While Hernandez was about to proceed eastbound Sieck began to back out of the parking stall behind the vehicle and struck the rear bumper of Hernandez’s vehicle. Neither driver suffered injuries.

Later that night at approximately 11:15pm an accident occurred on Fiddletown Road west of Bertone Road. According to Officer Melissa Scobee’s report, Richard Boles the third, 21 of Volcano was traveling west bound on Fiddletown Road while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. According to Scobee’s report Boles allowed his 1995 Mazda to run off the northern roadway edge of Fiddletown Road and collide into a fence. The vehicle then continued in a north westerly direction and struck a tree. After the collision Boles fled the scene and took a golf cart from the driveway of 17121 Fiddletown Road. Boles began to flee from the scene in the stolen golf cart southbound on a private driveway towards Fiddletown road. He then allowed the golf cart to run off the eastern roadway edge of the driveway into an embankment. The golf cart struck the abutment of a bridge. Boles attempted to flee the scene again, however the property owners located and detained him until the CHP’s arrival. Boles fled the scene again shortly before the CHP arrived and was detained within a few minutes. Officer Scobee placed Boles under arrest for driving under the influence.
