Former Jackson Resident, Ralph Garbarini, Pleads Guilty To Murder and Attempted Murder

slide22Ralph Stephen Garbarini, former Jackson resident pleaded guilty today to fatally gunning down a businessman at a popular dessert cafe in an apparently random act. Garbarini, admitted in Court today to shooting San Diego resident Michael Fineman at point-blank range Dec. 30, minutes after being thrown out of the restaurant by staff. Fineman, a 44-year-old father of three, had complained to restaurant staff that Garbarini was staring at him while he was having dessert with his wife and two friends and it was making them uncomfortable.  Garbarini returned just minutes later with gun in hand, headed directly for Fineman's table, shot him and the other male at the table, then calmly walked out and vanished and a statewide man hunt ensued.
slide23 Amador County residents as well as residents throughout California were asked to be on the lookout Garbarini’s vehicle, a Toyota pickup truck with an unusual hand painted paint job with a plywood camper. Garbarini remained a fugitive until March 13 when two retired Los Angeles police officers spotted the camper and alerted authorities. According to the AP today in Court, Garbarini pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and attempted murder, after prosecutors agreed to drop a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait that would have made him eligible for the death penalty. He is expected to be sentenced to 82 years to life in prison at a hearing scheduled for Nov. 27.
