slide28As the hot weather continues the fire situation is becoming more critical every day. A thunder and lightning storm moved quickly through the Eastern Sierra on Friday afternoon, July 6, 2007, igniting approximately 10 fires all being managed as one called the Inyo Complex Fire. As of Sunday morning, the three biggest fires still actively burning are: 1)The Oak Fire burning west and north of Independence, on both sides of US 395 2) The Seven Fire burning west and north of Independence 3) The Sage Fire burning in Big Pine Canyon.

The Oak and Seven Fire have merged into one fire known as the Seven Oaks Fire. Both the Sage and Seven Oaks fires burned aggressively all day on Saturday. The fire has burned over 34,000 Acres currently and has required the mobilization of several strike teams from around the state. One of those strike teams is from the Tuolumne Calaveras Unit of CalFire. TCU CalFire public Information Officer Nancy Longmore has announced the injury of several of the local fire fighters. According to Longmore at approximately 3:30 PM on Saturday, July 7, three firefighters from CAL FIRE/California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection were injured while on the fire line of the Inyo Complex near Independence, California.
