Hospital staff immediately contacted the Amador
County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff’s Department personnel responded the
hospital to speak with the victim and a witness. It was reported that the
victim, witness and several other landscapers who have been working in the area
were staying the night at the Pioneer Resort Lodge, located at 24144 Hwy 88,
Pioneer. Deputies were
told that an unknown male subject approached the victim, struck him several
times in the face and then stabbed him several times. After the attack an associate of the victim
drove him to the emergency room.
The victim suffered blunt force trauma injuries and three stab wounds. Deputies responded and began an investigation which led them to believe other occupants at the resort were possibly involved. Amador County Sheriff’s Investigators and the Crime Scene Investigator also responded. Through interviews and other investigative methods, the motive and identity of the suspect was determined. It was also determined that the suspect fled the area with an associate. A possible location for the suspect was also developed. As Investigators processed the crime scene, deputies responded to the residence at 16708 Meadow Vista Drive, Pioneer where they found the suspect hiding in a locked bedroom.
The suspect, Casey Andrew Decker, 39, of Pioneer was arrested and
booked into the Amador County Jail charged with PC 245(a)(1) Assault with a
deadly weapon; PC 273D Inflict an injury upon a child; and PC 12022.7(a)
Commission of a felony causing great bodily injury. Bail was set at $105,000.00. The Amador
County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the initial call for service by the
Jackson Police Department and
California Highway Patrol. An
investigator from the Amador County District Attorney’s Office assisted with
blood evidence collection at the crime scene. The victim is in stable condition at an
undisclosed hospital after under going surgery early this morning.
