Accidents this Week

slide8CHP Officer Melissa Scobee responded to the scene of an accident only to find that the driver was no where to be found. According to her report the accident occurred on Tuesday on Hwy. 88 west of Bamert Road. The unknown driver was driving the 1994 Volkswagen Jetta east bound on Hwy. 88 at a high rate of speed when it appears they made an abrupt turning movement towards the north roadway edge. The Jetta then traveled off the north roadway edge in a north easterly direction through a ditch and then a culvert. The vehicle continued on colliding with a fence which caused the car to rollover and come to rest on its wheels. Officer Scobee’s report states that after the collision the unknown driver fled the scene and the vehicle was located at its place of rest.
slide4District Attorney Todd Riebe has announced a series of charges against 30 year old Christina Roseann Yeadon-Torres, who he describes as a “one woman crime spree.” The charges against Yeadon-Torres almost seem innumerable at 18 counts, 16 of which are Felonies. The charges stem from a series of incidents that occurred on Monday June 4th when Yeadon-Torres stole checks and other items from a patron of the casino and then committed burglary, theft, forgery, identity theft and much more.  Count 1, Second Degree Commercial Burglary stems from when Yeadon-Torres entered Wal-Mart in Martell with the “intent to commit larceny and any felony.” The second felony count is False Personation as the woman falsely impersonated to be the victim from which she stole the items.
slide10A road rage incident ended with the suspect getting arrested for an entirely different crime yesterday mid morning. According to Under Sheriff Jim Wegner a woman was driving down Ridge Road in her mini van when an unidentified suspect in a truck was following close behind. The woman pulled over to allow the man to pass, but the suspect instead pulled over and exchanged words with the woman. Wegner indicated that the woman felt threatened by the suspects contact, but they parted ways and she went on her way to Lowe’s. In the Lowe’s parking lot as she was getting her child out of the mini van the man entered the parking lot and parked near her.

Accidents On Monday

Amador Unit California Highway Patrol Officer Marsac had a busy morning yesterday, with two collisions in the span of just a few hours. According to the report the accident occurred at 7:20 in the morning, on Michigan Bar Rd when an Ione man reached for his cell phone to check a message. In the process he drifted over the center line and struck a vehicle head on that had stopped in the roadway for a school bus that was stopped at a railroad crossing. There were no injuries reported. The next collision occurred near Wal-Mart on Wicklow  Way.  A Pine Grove woman was turning out of the Wal-Mart parking lot onto Wicklow and she took the turn too wide, drifting into the next lane over. According to the report, she then sideswiped a car in the next lane over driven by a 24 year old Jackson man. There were no injuries reported
slide19CalFire has announced that due to weather indications for thunderstorms and concerns about the fire season being off to an early start, the state fire agency will begin staffing their watch towers. Volunteers are getting ready to staff look out towers like Mount Howell Look Out Tower in Placer County as forecasters expect thunderstorms in the high sierra Thursday. Lightning is notorious for starting wildfires and this year has been responsible for several devastating fires across the country. According to CalFire’s Amador El Dorado Unit Public Information Officer Tobie Edmonds there will be no impact for either the Mt Zion Tower or the Blue Mountain Tower. This applies only to towers in the higher elevations.
slide2The investigation is continuing into the Vogan Toll Road fire that occurred early last Friday morning. According to Jackson Fire Chief Mark Morton, he, the Jackson Police Department and Cal Fire investigators are all working closely on leads they have received. Jackson PD Captain Christy Stidger said they do suspect that the fire is arson. Stidger said that Tom Oldeg, the CDF arson investigator, Fire Chief Mark Morton and Jackson Detective Chris Mynderup have all been following up on what she called “some pretty good leads.” Captain Stidger also revealed that they are investigating it as a burglary as property was missing.  Stidger said a computer was found to be missing after investigators searched the scene. The fire broke out last Friday at 4:30am at the Law Offices of Stephen Zalkind. The fire was first reported by the Jackson Police officer on scene to be a fully involved structure. Fire crews from Jackson and Cal Fire arrived on scene within minutes with two engines a piece. The structure by this time was fully ablaze and concerns turned to limiting the spread of the fire to the surrounding fields. Crews were able to limit the spread and the fire was under control by 5:07 am, but the building was a total loss.
An accident occurred on Hwy. 49 yesterday around noon, when the driver of this Buick apparently allowed her vehicle to begin drifting on the roadway. Realizing that the vehicle was drifting the driver overcorrected causing her to loose control causing the vehicle subsequently running off the embankment of Hwy 49, landing in the parking lot of the new Coldwell Banker. That was unfortunate, for the two parked vehicles on which the Buick landed on top of. The Jackson Police Department closed one lane of traffic for about 20 minutes to allow emergency vehicles access to the accident scene. The road was closed again later for another 10 minutes as the tow truck had to situate on the Hwy. to retrieve the vehicle. According to Jackson Police Captain Christy Stidger the driver of the vehicle, was uninjured except for a scratch on her knee and opted to seek her own medical care.
