The state public health department is warning consumers not to eat bagged, fresh baby carrots distributed to Trader Joe’s stores and Ralphs by the Los Angeles Salad Company.

District Attorney Todd Riebe says, former California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations Officer Steve Andrew Felter, has been ordered to pay 122-thousand-dollars in restitution. He was previously sentenced to 100 days in jail, and placed on five-years formal probation after pleading guilty to two felony counts of workers’ compensation fraud in Amador County Superior Court.

Some police work Monday night resulted in the arrest of an Ione man for helping himself to some tires. CHP Officer Jeremy Dobler noticed a vehicle parked at Jackson Tire around 9:30 in the evening.

The Public Comment period on the adequacy of the Draft EIR for the City of Jackson’s Land Use, Circulation and Zoning Project was discussed by the Jackson Planning Commission this week.

Monday night Amador County emergency personnel responded to reports of a single vehicle collision on Camanche Rd., near the San Joaquin County Line. Multiple units responded to the crash only to find an abandoned vehicle in a filed wrecked into a tree. C-H-P was able to piece together the crash and locate the driver. According to the report, the wreck occurred when Phil Bolek was driving eastbound on Camanche Parkway while intoxicated. When attempting to round a curve in the roadway, Bolek drove straight- off the road and into a field and a tree,  then fled the scene. C-H-P Officer Ladd later located Bolek at his home where he was arrested.

Another destructive fire destroyed several homes in Tahoe City this weekend and Amador County had yet another close call with potential destruction Sunday afternoon.

Amador County Sheriff’s Deputies had a pursuit on their hands yesterday morning when a driver failed to yield to a Deputy attempting a routine traffic stop.

Changes are about to happen for most 7th and 8th grade students at Jackson Junior High School. Jackson Junior High School students received a recorded message yesterday from their principal, Janet Pabst, via the Amador County Unified School District’s automated dialer system. The message indicated that because of an unexpected increase in student enrollment the school district has hired two additional teachers and created extra classes. This means that most 7th and 8th grade students will receive new schedules today. Parents should receive those schedules in the mail in the next few days. Every year an estimated 3,000 children are diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome (S-B-S). SBS is a serious traumatic brain injury caused when an individual shakes a child, usually less than one year of age. The American Academy of Pediatrics further defines SBS as an act "of shaking/slamming that is so violent that any competent individuals observing the shaking would recognize it was dangerous."
