Amador Library display of Mental Health resources for MentalIllness Awareness Week

Amador County Library is featuring a display of books and resources about mental illness, treatments, recovery, wellness - all new books that the Library was able to purchase through a gift from NAMI Amador.  There are also manyFREE  NAMI pamphlets about mental illnesses and their treatments, all good information for the public.
Last fall NAMI Amador and Amador County Behavioral Health received one of the CalMHSA Community Outreach grants for rural counties - one of 20 in the state.  And did we do outreach!  We held the first Stroll to STOP Stigma (the second was held last Sunday), we hosted a a very successful Community Forum to talk about stigma and the challenges for recovery living with mental illness.
With some funding left from the grant, NAMI Amador has continued to support in small ways community efforts to eliminate stigma and increase knowledge about mental illness.  The gift to our Library was one of these projects.  Another recent project was to supply NAMI Amador information about our classes and support groups, plus the professionally written NAMI pamphlets on mental illnesses, treatments and recovery to Amador Sheriff’s Department for their most recent critical incident training.
We have other projects in mind and are exploring the best ways we can enhance efforts to reduce the stigma of mental illness in our Amador community.
