Jackson, Calif. – Sutter Amador Hospital launched a new orthopedic program as a way to continuously improve care for patients and enhance the services it provides within the community. Surgical Affiliates Management Group, a medical group that also provides emergency surgery care at Sutter Amador Hospital, is now providing orthopedic care coverage for patients coming to the Emergency Department, along with post-operative care in the Sutter Amador Outpatient Services Center.

“The orthopedic program is a great partnership that will help create a long-term, sustainable approach for meeting orthopedic surgery needs in our community and ensure consistent coverage for our patients needing emergency orthopedic care,” said Sutter Amador Hospital CEO Anne Platt.

Last year, Surgical Affiliates began providing general surgical support 24/7 for patients who come into the hospital with emergency surgical needs. With this consistent, around-the-clock coverage, the goal of Surgical Affiliates is that every patient has access at Sutter Amador Hospital to the same level of high quality surgical services no matter when they need them. With the addition of the orthopedic surgical program, orthopedic surgeons will also be available 24/7 for patients with broken bones or other orthopedic injuries.

“The orthopedic surgical program will complement our acute care general surgical collaboration with Sutter Amador Hospital,” said Surgical Affiliates’ CEO Dr. Leon J. Owens. “Our model is based on leadership from expert surgeons and executives, building outstanding surgical teams that follow evidence based guidelines in care delivery, and collaboration with the hospital staff to consistently improve patient care and safety. What’s more, because the Surgical Affiliates team is available 24/7, a highly skilled team is available at all times for patients in need.”

The physician leadership team developing this new program includes Gregory Graves, M.D., Medical Director of Sutter Amador Hospital’s Surgery Department and Regional Medical Director of Oncology Services in the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region, and Lynette Scherer, M.D., Surgical Affiliates’ Chief Medical Officer who will be working with Surgical Affiliates and local orthopedic surgeons as they build this high quality, patient-centered orthopedic program.  In support of the orthopedic service, Surgical Affiliates has recruited two additional experienced orthopedists to its local group.

Dr. Mark Endicott is a Native Californian who grew up in the Sierra foothills in Sonora. He served in the United States Air Force for 14 years, received his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at the University of California Davis Medical Center.  Dr. Endicott has comprehensive experience in the treatment of fractures, sports medicine, arthritis care, arthroscopic surgery and total joint replacement.

Also a native Northern Californian, Dr. Jerry Labson recently retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years of service. He received his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine followed by a family medicine residency at the David Grant USAF Medical Center. He then went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship from the University of California, San Diego and an orthopedic surgery residency from the University of California Davis Medical School. Dr. Labson has comprehensive experience in sports medicine and treating sports related injuries, arthritis care, total joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery and the treatment of multiple types of fractures.

Sutter Amador Hospital’s local orthopedic surgeons Dr. Paul Metzger and Dr. Peter Sfakianos will continue providing their high level orthopedic services at Sutter Amador while assisting with the development of Surgical Affiliates’ new orthopedics office in the Sutter Amador Outpatient Service Center located on the hospital campus at 100 Mission Boulevard.
