Morning Fire Destroys Historic Jackson Home

slide59-11 was more than just a day of remembrance here in Amador County. Emergency Crews were called into action yesterday morning around 7, with reports of a structure fire at 403 Court Street in Jackson.  Emergency personel closed Court Street for some time while multiple fire agencies responded. Here’s Jackson Fire Capt Frank Tremaine. The resident Louis Sarracino was awoken by abrubt yelling and shouting to “Get out,” and “fire!”. The cause of the fire is under investigation however, according to Jackson City Asst Fire Chief Dale Fishback, the fire did start in the upstairs of the home.
While crews in Jackson fought the fire, Battalion 20 Fire crews were called, along with CalFire, to a single vehicle collision on Michigan Bar Rd in the Ione area. The vehicle driven by 58 year old Virginia Sy of Sacramento left the road way, overturning in a field. The eastbound lane of the roadway was blocked for a short time as emergency crews tended to the driver who had only minor injuries. According to CHP Officer Frank Peixoto the driver was wearing her seatbelt and that drastically lessened her injuries.

Sealand Container Policy Workshops Scheduled

On May 16, 2006 Title 19 of the Amador County Code was amended to include regulations pertaining to sea-land storage containers in order to encourage appropriate locations and uses for such containers and protect the visual quality of the County.
slide7Speaking of workshops, Amador Government #101,  a workshop for the residents of Amador County is being offered to all residents.  These workshops are an effort to allow citizens an opportunity to hear how our local government works directly from the mouths of the folks who run it.
Not one, but two, special legislative sessions is what Gov. Schwarzenegger has called for to deal with healthcare reform and water issues. The current legislative session is scheduled to end this Friday. The State Legislature still has hundreds of bills before it. Schwarzenegger also has a number of measures to sign or veto. In announcing the special sessions, the governor said the stalled state budget negotiations put other legislative work behind. There are at least two healthcare reforms proposals to be considered; one put forth by Schwarzenegger and the other a Democratic-sponsored plan.  Also, the governor wants lawmakers to take up his proposals for more ground and surface water storage, a new water conveyance system and Delta preservation.
General David Petraeus has some definite ideas about the war in Iraq and apparently President Bush is listening to him. The Whitehouse announced that President Bush plans to reduce the American troop presence in Iraq by about 30,000 by next summer, but will condition those and further cuts on continued progress.
